Obituary of James Stephen Johnson, Jr.

James Stephen Johnson, Jr., age 77, of Southampton, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Thursday, January 18, 2018. He was born in Jersey City to the late James Johnson, Sr. and Kathryn Johnson (nee Bassik) on August 23, 1940 and grew up in the New Egypt area. James attended St. Mary’s School in Bordentown and later went to Trenton Catholic Schools. He went to college to become a CPA. In 1965 he and his wife Laura moved to Southampton. The couple had five children.  James was very inventive and could make anything work. He worked as a Supply Officer for Fort Dix for over 42 years. James also enjoyed watching the Eagles, cars and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed.

James is predeceased by his parents. He leaves behind his wife, Laura Johnson (nee Conger) of Southampton; his five children, Kathryn Morrison of Michigan, Linda Ross and her husband Fred of Southampton, Sharon Horn and her husband Harold of Michigan, James S. Johnson III of Southampton and Jamie Getman and her husband Adam of Florida; his eight grandchildren; his seven and soon to be eight great-grandchildren; his sister Kathryn Johnson of California; along with many friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 9AM to 11AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home (tilghmanfh.com), located at 52 Main St., New Egypt, NJ 08533. A funeral service will begin at 11AM with interment to follow at the Jacobstown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in James’ memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
