Obituary of James H. Greene, Sr.
James H. “Sonny” Greene, Sr., age 84, of Sicklerville and formerly of Whiting, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He was born in Bristol, TN on September 29, 1935 to the late George and Annie Greene. Jim worked as an Electrical Lineman for JCP&L and then as a civil serviceman for both Fort Dix and McGuire Air Force Base. He was a lifetime member of the New Egypt Elks Lodge 2457 and an avid coin collector. Jim had a strong love for sports; he loved taking trips to play golf, watching Nascar and college basketball and was a huge fan of the New York Giants. In his earlier years, Jim coached Little League baseball, enjoyed playing cards at the Elks and gardening. He was a supportive and dedicated family man. Jim adored his three granddaughters and wasn’t shy to let everyone know how proud he was of them. He was a loving father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed.
Jim is predeceased by his parents; by his first wife Janice M. Greene; by his second wife Doris Greene; and by his three sisters, Mary Frances Thompson, Edith Robinette and Joanne Eggers.
He leaves behind his two daughters, Lisa Kaczor and husband Doug of Cream Ridge and Karen Rankin and husband Rob of Crestview, FL; his son, Jim Greene, Jr. of Hamilton Square; his three granddaughters, Alyssa Bruno and husband Anthony of Wrightstown, Jessica Schlauch and husband Michael of Cream Ridge and Hayley Burgess of Montgomery, AL; his significant other Maryanne Dickman of Sicklerville; his niece Beverly Welch; along with several other nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, December 9, 2019 from 6PM to 8PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, located at 52 Main Street, New Egypt NJ 08533, and again on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 11AM. Rev. Ed Hlad will begin our service at 11:30AM with burial to follow at the Jacobstown Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim’s memory to the New Egypt Elks Scholarship Fund. Please make checks payable to the New Egypt Elks with Scholarship fund noted in the memo line.
