Richardine Smiley Brown was born July 25, 1932 in the state of Alabama. She was educated in the local school system. After graduation she moved to Miami, Florida, where she studied, and became a Nurse and Physician Assistant. Later in life she moved to Newark, NJ where she met and married Leroy Brown. They later moved to New Egypt, NJ to raise their three sons. Ritchie, as she was lovingly called, was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, sister and friend. She helped and worked with several families in New Egypt, doing health care in their homes. She adored her grandchildren and enjoyed teaching them to bake, and cook her many recipes. Being a devout and loyal Christian, she helped to instill the love of God in them. Due to a decline in her mental health she was living at Willow Springs Nursing Home, in Brick, NJ, until her untimely death. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband of 45 years Leroy Brown, her three sons Michael, Mickey, and Steven, sisters Janie Tolliver(Johnny), and Lilliana Smiley. She leaves to celebrate her blessed home going, her grandsons Kareem Mckellar (Danielle), Jack Battle, two granddaughters Saundra Valek (Matthew), Simone Pulley, six great-grandchildren; Kareem Jr., Isaiah, Jonathan, Adriana, Matthew Jr., and Lauren, a daughter-in-law April Brown, a host of cousins and friends, and a very special daughter Sandra Pitts. She lived her life serving, and helping others. She had a covering of the Lord over her life, and her steps reflected that in her works. She was loved and will be missed greatly. Ritchie will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Leroy at Zion Cemetery in New Egypt. Due to current restrictions, funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangement are under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home in New Egypt.
