Obituary of John V. Marabuto, Sr.

On the evening of August 12, 2020, John Marabuto Sr. passed away peacefully at his son John's home in Cream Ridge, New Jersey, surrounded by family. John was 84 at the time of his passing.
John was born in Vale de Ilhavo, Portugal on February 4, 1936, to Manuel and Celeste Marabuto. John immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of 11. He leaves behind two siblings, Alberto Marabuto and Connie Chipello, his brother Carlos Marabuto predeceased him.
Husband of the late Dolores Marabuto, John and his wife were residents of New Egypt, New Jersey for over 30 years. Together Dolores and John raised their five children, Deborah Reynolds and husband Gordon, John Marabuto and wife Laura, Lorraine Logan and husband Travis, Anthony Marabuto and wife Bernadette, and Joseph Marabuto and wife Caroline. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren Dawn, Manny, Bruce, Marialaina, Michael, Sabrina, Macy, Thomas, Ashley, Travis, Rachel, AJ, Emily and Evan; and 13 great grandchildren.
John worked as a laborer at Local Union 472 for several years while raising his family. In his free time, John had a passion for soccer that he shared with his children and community members. In addition to playing for a team while living in Newark, New Jersey during his early life, he also founded a soccer league in Allentown, New Jersey where his family resided for many years.
John embodied what it meant to be a true patriarch. Known to his grandchildren as "Avo," John was well respected and tremendously loved by those who knew him. He enjoyed soccer, playing cards, and trips to Atlantic City with his wife Dolores. John had a quick wit and strong sense of humor that captured people's hearts. You could always count on John to bring people together, as he was the backbone of his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, August 22nd, for a Memorial Service from 12PM to 3PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, located at 52 Main Street, New Egypt, New Jersey 08533. Social distancing and face coverings are required at the funeral home with a maximum limit of 25 people at a time is allowed. A reception will follow at the German American Club, 215 Uncle Pete's Road, Hamilton, NJ 08691.
