Obituary of Frank T. Kiernan

Please share a memory of Frank to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frank Kiernan, born during the end of the Great Depression, April, 1937, of New Egypt, died at the age of 87 on Friday, January 31 at RWJBH Medical Center in Hamilton Township, NJ. Born at home in River Vale, NJ, Frank was a resident of Carlstadt and then Montague, before marrying Charlotte Golcheski in 1964 and moving to Freedon Township, NJ and then Washington Crossing, PA. They moved to New Egypt, NJ in 1974. Frank was a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and taught high school level physics for several years before becoming an employee of the State of New Jersey. Frank retired from the Department of Health and Human Services in 2006. Always one to keep busy, Frank had several side businesses including a lawn mower repair service and a successful tax accounting business, Kiernan Tax Accounting in New Egypt, in partnership with Charlotte. Frank was a devoted traditional Roman Catholic and named oldest living member of the John Birch Society. He was classic do-it-yourselfer, and whether it was installing a self-designed passive solar heating system or growing a flourishing organic garden, teaching his kids how to drive a stick shift, or helping to restore a barn from the studs up, there was nothing he couldn’t fix, replace, repair, or do, on a Sunday afternoon, after the hardware store had closed. He was happiest when sailing, protesting tax increases at the state capital, and camping with his family at Bass River State Park. Frank was the son of the late Frank and Florence Kiernan and beloved brother to the late Florence Brislin and late Rose Mozek. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Kiernan, nee Golcheski. He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law: Kathleen and Ajaz Rana of Princeton, Teresa and James Moon of Yardville, Christine and Robert Null of Webster, NY, and Mary and Alan Hammerschmidt of New Egypt, and two sons and daughters-in-law Kevin and Phyllis Kiernan of Cincinnati, OH, and Robert and Jacqueline Kiernan of Benson, AZ, 15 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Brief calling hours will be from 9 am to 10:30 am at Mater Ecclesiae Parish on Monday, February 10, 2025 with the Mass of Christian burial to be held at 11 am at Mater Ecclesiae Parish, 261 Berlin - Cross Keys Rd, Berlin, NJ with Father Pasley officiating. Interment will be at the Church of the Assumption, 76 Evergreen Road, New Egypt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be be made to the John Birch Society at https://jbs.org/donate/ in memory of Frank.
