Vernon Wayne “Red” Gilbert, age 79, of New Egypt passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at RWJ University Hospital in Hamilton. Born in Allentown, NJ to the late Victor and Mary Ella (Wood) Gilbert, he was a lifetime New Egypt resident.
Red had worked as a Tree Trimmer with Asplundh Tree Company before his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and working in his garden, he loved a good cup of coffee and spending time at his favorite diners, Marshall’s Corner until it closed and most recently Tootie’s both in New Egypt.
Red was predeceased by his parents; two sons, Vernon and Christopher and by siblings; Sarah Gilbert, Helen Silverman, Caroline Bozarth, Katherine Gilbert, Geraldine Gilbert, Evelyn Gilbert, Marie Gilbert, Gene Gilbert, Charles Gilbert, Clifford Gilbert, Raymond Gilbert, Jesse Gilbert, Virginia Young and Madeline Gilbert. He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Loretta (Sawadzki) Gilbert; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Larry Goff of New Egypt; two granddaughters, Stephanie Goff and Alicia Goff both of New Egypt; a great granddaughter, Skylar Goff and his siblings; Vincent Gilbert, Judy Orts, Shirley Fite and husband Sam, Maryann Austin and husband Mike, Irene Gilbert and Betty Miller.
Funeral services for Red will be held on Tuesday, April 1 at 1:00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533 with burial to follow at Zion Cemetery on Lakewood Road in New Egypt. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
