Somnuk Bennett, age 81, of Cookstown passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at home of her daughter, Lamtong Johnson and her son-in-law, Vernon C. Johnson. She was born on February 15, 1944, in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, and the daughter of Pra Bu Tong and Tong Gont Guyungon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip George Bennett; her parents; her brother, Garnt Guyungon; her sisters, Somgai and Somgianke Guyungon; her son, Michael Philip Bennett; grandson, Brasert Sakhonwasee; and granddaughter, Britnet Bennett. In addition to her daughter Lamtong, Somuk is survived by her sister, Sommant Ortgies of North Liberty, IA; her children, Somwang Johnson of Clear Spring, MD; Kobkeo Headlee of Colorado Springs, CO; Duangkae “Lee” Srithiemthing of Spring Creek, NV; and Gar Bennett of Kingsford, MI. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Sasiwimon (Robert) Bishop, Praphawadee (Christopher) Mongold, Stillwell Johnson, Laura (Joshua) ‘Booth, Christopher Tollisen, Scott Headlee, Kevin Headlee, Thomas Schonmeier, Stephanie Lamm, Matthew Srithiemthong, Whitney Srithiemthong, Alex Bennett, Kelsey (Brendan) Guerrero, and Madison Bennett; and 8 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Somnuk was a long-time homemaker but loved to travel to different places for a new setting and memories. She enjoyed living in the village of Spring Lake, MI, where the beaches and nature parks greeted her every day. Always fashionable, she dressed up with pride on her way to Thai music concerts and festivals. She chuckled as she watched the Andy Griffith Show and Jeff Dunham comedy specials as well as Thai television shows. Years later, Somnuk and her loving husband, Phil would settle in San Antonio, TX, where they lived happily for several years near their son, Mike. She and Phil loved animals, which included their much cherished, larger-than-life Jack Russell Terrier, Junior. She and her husband were known in their San Antonio neighborhood to dote on Junior, taking him for walks by pushing hum in a kid’s stroller and he sniffed the air. Somnuk will be laid to rest next to her husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery located in San Antonio, TX. All arrangements are under the direction of Tilghman Funeral Home located in New Egypt, NJ.
