James S. “Jimmy” Zavacky
January 9, 1963 – September 18, 2025
James S. “Jimmy” Zavacky, age 62, of North Hanover, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with melanoma. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, on January 9, 1963, Jimmy was the son of the late Steven and Alice Zavacky.
Jimmy was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 31 years, Mary Zavacky. Together, they shared countless memories, from dinners out to scenic drives and family vacations. Winter getaways and summers spent on Long Beach Island were especially dear to him. Above all, Jimmy’s greatest joy was time spent with his family—his wife, son, Patrick and wife Catherine, and his cherished granddaughters, Zoey and Leah.
A man of great character and a true friend to all, Jimmy was also a successful businessman who founded Hanover Construction in 1988. His work ethic, integrity, and dedication made him a respected figure in his field.
Known to many as "Captain Jimmy," he was an avid offshore fisherman who loved chasing tuna and competing in fishing tournaments aboard his boat, Reel Determined. He shared his passion for the sport with his son and many close friends. He was a proud member and Trustee of the Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club. He was also a member of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association where he loved teaching the next generation of fishermen.
Beyond his love for the water, Jimmy had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He was an active member of the Sportsmen’s Fish and Game Protective Association for over 40 years, where he shared his knowledge of the Jersey Pines and passed on his love for hunting to others.
Jimmy’s legacy lives on in his loving wife, son and daughter-in-law, granddaughters, brothers David (Jennifer) and Steven (Winifred), and his many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ.
