Richard James Calderone Jr., HMC (FMF, SW, AW), U.S. Navy
Richard James Calderone Jr. passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on December 15, 1985. Richard lived a remarkable life defined by service, dedication, and unwavering loyalty to his country.
Richard served honorably in the United States Navy for 21 years, achieving the rank of Chief Hospital Corpsman (HMC). Throughout his distinguished military career, he earned numerous awards and decorations, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, Joint Service Achievement Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the nation’s defense. A respected leader, mentor, and patriot, Richard served in Iraq, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean, demonstrating courage and professionalism in every assignment. He was affectionately known as “Baby Doc” during his deployment to Iraq with the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines. His legacy of leadership continued through his service at Naval Special Warfare Group One in Coronado, CA; the Military Entrance Processing Station in Louisville, KY; and the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport, MS. He earned the respect and admiration of the sailors and Marines with whom he proudly served.
Richard is survived by his father, Richard J. Calderone Sr. (Jacqui Carracappa); his brother, Christopher Calderone; his twin brother, Robert Calderone; and his sister, Stephanie Hagelstein (James) and nieces and nephew Temperance, June, and James Jr. who will forever cherish his memory. He is preceded in death by his mother, Jacqueline Kuznick (Phillip).
Funeral services are being arranged by Tilghman Funeral Home and will be held at Atkinson Hall- New Egypt Methodist Church, 9 Fort Ave., New Egypt, NJ 08533, on Friday, December 5th, from 10:00am until 12:00pm with a service follow. Richard will be laid to rest afterward at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562.
