Lear (nee Tantum). Carol Lee was a 6 th generation and lifelong New Egyptian raised on Oakford Ave. with her brothers Donald and Duane. Carol Lee spent much of her early years with her grandparents learning how to refinish furniture and the history of her town. After graduating from Allentown Highschool, Carol Lee entered the workforce as a secretary at the David Sarnoff Research Center in Princeton NJ. While there, she was introduced to her husband of 61 years, Donald Reed. Carol Lee and Don spent most weekends traveling the New England States until they welcomed their first child, Stacy. After their second child, Steven arrived, Carol Lee spent her time as a devoted mother and housewife. She later turned her passion for antiques into a business and opened, “The Barracks Antiques”. After years in the antique business, a new career came calling and Carol Lee shifted to real estate where she worked for Gale Realty and then B&R Realty. She officially retired in 1998 to become a full-time grandmother. She was very active in the community. Carol Lee was a founder, the curator and life member of the New Egypt Historical Society and stayed very involved right up until her last days. She earned the name “The Teacher “for her weekly Wednesday history lessons. She was an Elder, a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent and life member of the Plumsted Presbyterian Church. After Covid, Carol Lee was determined to start Sunday School again. It didn’t matter if there were 50 kids or 1, she wanted to teach the children God’s word. Carol Lee was an original member and creator of the Community Garden, known as “The Fab Five”, and was a member of Republicans for Plumsted. Carol Lee had a love of reading and was an active member of The Plumsted Page Turners. She passed her love of reading to her children and grandchildren and would often pass books back and forth with them.
