Earl J. “Monk” Parker, age 78, of New Egypt died Sunday, July 14 at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold. Born in Cookstown, he was a lifetime Jacobstown/New Egypt area resident. Monk was a retired 1st Class Lineman for Jersey Central Power & Light, working 42 years at the Cookstown location and was a member of the I.B.E.W. Union in Toms River. After his retirement from Jersey Central Monk worked for Paul Hlubik at his farm in Jacobstown. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and tractor pulls. Son of the late Walter and Mildred (Lawrence) Parker, he is survived by his wife, Josephine (Wolanin) Parker; two daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Donald Butler of North Hanover and Lisa and Matt Lewis of Jacobstown; a son, Joseph Oesterling of New Egypt; two sisters, Alma Atkins of Browns Mills and Shirley Hathaway of Florida; a granddaughter, Karen Wasilewski; two great grandchildren, Jonathan and Elizabeth; many nieces and nephews and his very good friends, Paul and Kitty Hlubik and David Forsyth of Jacobstown. Funeral services for Monk will be held on Wednesday, July 17 at 12:00 Noon at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com). Calling hours will be from 10:00 AM until Noon at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jacobstown Cemetery on Schoolhouse Road in Jacobstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Monk’s name may be made to the New Egypt First Aid Squad, P. O. Box 368, New Egypt, NJ 08533.
