Obituary of Donald Fort

Donald J. Fort of Allentown, NJ, died peacefully at home under hospice care, December 16, 2013, after a courageous battle with lung and bone cancer. His wife of 60 years, Beverlee J. Fort, and his daughter Vicki were by his side. Left to treasure his memory are his 3 children: daughter Vicki and husband Steve Correll of Yardley, Pa, son Jeff Fort of Philadelphia, Pa, daughter Kylie and husband James Carroll of Robbinsville, NJ, and 5 grandchildren: Nick Grover and fiancée Lynsey Miller, Sara Borland and husband Charles, Katie Correll, Emily Grover, and Jenny Carroll, one sister, Doris Croshaw of Wrightstown, NJ., and very special friends LeRoy Grover, Albert Cominsky, Jerry Ksell, and John Block, as well as many friends, cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors and church members. Donald was born in Pemberton, NJ and graduated from High School there before enlisting in the Air Force in 1952. In California in 1953, he met Airman 1st/Class Beverlee Mattison on KP duty which led to love and marriage and 20 more years in the Air Force before retirement. During his Air Force career he attended college at night eventually earning a Bachelor’s Degree while living all over the world, including England, Italy, Thailand and Puerto Rico as well as several states in the USA. After retirement from the Air Force He attended Rider University, eventually earning a Master’s Degree in Education. He began his second career as a teacher in Freehold, NJ, followed by a position as Curriculum Coordinator in the North Hanover School District, and finished up as principal of one of the McGuire AFB schools. He was former President and Vice President of the North Hanover Seniors club, a member of the Cookstown Seniors, a member of the Wrightstown Rotary club, a member of the Rose of Sharon Evangelical Lutheran Church, and a former member of the Bordentown Elks. Burial with Air Force Honors will take place on Friday, December 20 at 10:00 AM at the Chapel of the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road in Wrightstown (Please arrive to the cemetery by 9:45 AM to drive up to the chapel in a group). Following the burial a memorial service for Donald will take place on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Rose of Sharon Lutheran Church, 42 Chesterfield-Jacobstown Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to the Rose of Sharon Evangelical Lutheran Church, 42 Chesterfield-Jacobstown Road, Wightstown, NJ 08562. Arrangements are under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com).
