Obituary of Barton Callahan

Barton Callahan, Jr., age 68, of Freehold passed away Thursday, April 24 at home. Born in Orange, NJ, he was a lifetime Freehold area resident. Bart served in the Coast Guard from 1963 to 1967. He was a retired police sergeant and detective, after 27 years of service. Two years with Freehold Borough and twenty five years with Freehold Township. Bart was a member of the Freehold PBA Local 209 and he enjoyed bingo and was a volunteer with the Albert Music Hall in Waretown. He was predeceased by his parents, Emma E. and Barton Callahan, Sr. Bart is survived by four children, Barton Callahan III and wife Patricia of New York, Brenda Callahan of New Jersey, Dawn Enrico and fiancé Chris Sanders of Cape Coral, FL and Tami Sinanian of St. Augustine, FL; his fiancée, Marion Meredith of Cream Ridge and her children who Bart treated as his own, Jackie Newell and husband Alan of New Egypt and Rick Meredith of Cream Ridge; his grandchildren, Brandon and Daniel Callahan, Steven and Casey Dreyer, Bobby and Bryce Enrico, Kayla and Jaden Sinanian, Scott Newell, Becky Stepnewski, Brandy Meredith and Ricki Lynn Meredith. Funeral services for Bart will be held on Wednesday, April 30 at 11:00 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533 (www.tilghmanfh.com), with interment to follow in the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. Calling hours will be on Tuesday evening, April 29 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Due to cemetery restrictions, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bart’s name can be made to the Albert Music Hall, P. O. Box 657, Waretown, NJ 08758 (www.alberthall.org) or to the Popcorn Park Zoo, P. O. Box 43, Forked River, NJ 08731-0043 (www.ahscares.org).
