Obituary of Richard D. Brody

Richard D. Brody, age 66, of Millstone Twp. passed away Monday, November 17 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Born in Brooklyn, he was a resident of Millstone for 14 years and formerly lived in Howell for 26 years. Richard served in the US Army during the Vietnam War manning US nuclear missile sites. After his military service he worked in the electrical power industry, managing power plants, always for socially responsible companies. Most recently he worked as an Assistant Vice President for LS Power Development in East Brunswick. He attended Ocean County College and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Goddard College. Richard was the NJ State Commander (for 22 years) and National Board Member of the Veterans of The Vietnam War, he was the chairman of the Millstone Twp. Veterans Memorial Council, a life member of the Jewish War Veterans, Post 444 in East Windsor and a life member of the VFW Post 4703 and DAV Chapter 77 both in Jackson. He also was a member of the NJ Yellow Ribbon Commission, former chairman of the Millstone Twp. Environmental Commission and former president of the NJ Association of Energy Engineers and an avid NY Jets fan. Richard was a 2011 inductee in the Jackson Memorial High School Hall of Fame. He stayed true to his fellow military veterans and their needs through membership in military veterans service organizations and by helping promote Americian patriotism in schools. His family was the most important thing to him. “Life is Good” Richard was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Frances Brody. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gail (nee Funaro) Brody; two brothers, Yaakov Brody and Schmuel Brody both of New York; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Funaro of Millstone Twp. and Glenn Funaro of Belmar and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Richard will be held on Wednesday, November 19 at 1:00 PM at the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562 under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com). Due to cemetery restrictions, in lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Richard’s name may be made to either the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
