Obituary of Alexander B. Callahan

Alexander B. Callahan, age 77, of Barnegat, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was born in Jamaica, Queens NY on April 22, 1940 to the late Howard and Elizabeth (nee Lang) Callahan. Alexander proudly enlisted into the US Army as an MP at the age of 18, and served in Germany. After his service in the military, he worked as a steam fitter at Queens College in NY and resided in Ozone Park, Queens NY. Alexander later married Gloria Sanzere and the couple had three children. In 1984, the family moved to Staten Island NY and stayed there until Alexander and his wife retired to Barnegat NJ 18 years ago.

Alexander had a love for life and for his family. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, hosting and attending family gatherings and caring for his wife Gloria. Alexander also liked walking, biking and playing tennis with his friends at Mirage. He enjoyed the water, fishing, boating and crabbing. Mostly, Alexander was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed.

Alexander is predeceased by his parents. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Gloria Callahan; his children, Cheryl Callahan of Gulf Breeze FL, Alexander Callahan Jr. of Eatontown NJ, and Lisa Callahan of New Hanover Township NJ;  his five grandchildren, Dominick Altomonte, Kenneth Hunt III, Danielle Santarpia, Corinne Misorski and Brett Misorski Jr. and a brother, Howard Lang of Pocono Summit, PA.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Tilghman Funeral Home, located at 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533. A funeral service will begin at the funeral home at 12:30pm. Interment will follow at the Brig. General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, located at 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown NJ 08562. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alexander’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517 (www.woundedwarriorproject.com).
