Obituary of Larry A. Nixon

Larry A. Nixon, age 74, of St. James City, Florida and formerly of New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Gulf Coast Hospital in Fort Myers FL. He was born in Mt. Holly, NJ to the late Edward and Ella Nixon (nee Johnson) on October 23, 1943. After high school, Larry enlisted in the US Coast Guard and served in the Vietnam War. After that, he became a Building Inspector for various municipalities including Plumsted, Mansfield and Wrightstown. Larry loved nothing more than fishing and helping other within his community. He served as past Chief at the Wrightstown Volunteer Fire Co., a past Commander at the American Legion and was a very active member with several other community organizations, both in New Jersey and in Florida. Larry was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be deeply missed.

Larry is predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife Carol Nixon; and son Larry R. Nixon.

He leaves behind two children, Jeffrey Nixon and wife Marilyn of Boynton Beach FL and Karen McFarland and husband Joseph of Springfield Twp. NJ; siblings Edward Nixon and Darleen Nixon; and four grandchildren, Catalina Nixon, Vivian Nixon, Ashley McFarland and Andrew McFarland.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, August 9, 2018 from 5-8PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, located at 52 Main St., New Egypt NJ 08533 (www.tilghmanfh.com) . A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 12 Noon, with burial to follow at the Brig. General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in North Hanover Twp., NJ.
