Obituary of Charles William Barnes

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charles William Barnes, Sr., Age 58, New Egypt, NJ The Earth has suffered a terrible loss and heaven has become that much richer. Never a truer “diamond-in-the-rough”, Charles William Barnes, Sr., age 58, of New Egypt, passed away peacefully at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He was known to all as Charlie. He left this world to go to a better place, free of pain and will be greatly missed by all. Charlie was born in Newark, NJ and raised in Old Bridge and later in Nanticoke, PA. After graduating from John S. Fine High School in Nanticoke, he moved back to Old Bridge, where he met the love of his life, married and later moved to New Egypt to raise his family. Charlie was a “dire-hard” Giants fan through good times and bad. He was an avid deer hunter and music enthusiast, able to name any tune at the drop of a note. But most importantly he found nothing more enjoyable than watching his grandchildren grow. Charlie met and became friends with Bill W. He took his life experiences and was able to help people with his words and support at their time of need. He was a mentor and confidant to everyone he helped, never thinking twice about helping, all the way to the very end. The amount of people he has helped and affected will never truly be recognized. Charlie retired 5 years ago, after 28 years of service, from Gerdau AmeriSteel Corporation in Sayreville, NJ, where he was a supervisor. Charlie was predeceased by his father, Charles William Barnes III and his mother, Marion Krommes Diacheysn. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Joanne Talarick Barnes; his daughter, Jodi Byrne and her husband Robert; his sons, Charles W. Barnes, Jr., Stephen M. Barnes and his girlfriend Jennifer Kalinowski and Sean Barnes; his grandchildren, Julianna, Emily and Robert John Byrne and Stephen S. Barnes, all of New Egypt; his step-mother, Eleanor Barnes of Toms River; his step-father, Michael Diacheysn of Nanticoke, PA; his sisters, Cheryl Kearn, Kathleen DeAngelis and Michele Vodzak, all of Nanticoke, PA, Kim Coleman of Bloomsburg, PA and Jackie Krystofik of Glenwood; his brother, Michael Diacheysn of Fayetteville, AL and a close family friend, Glenn Eads, Sr. of New Egypt. A Mass of Christian Burial for Charlie will be held on Friday, January 13 at 9:30 AM at the Church of the Assumption, 28 Monmouth Road (Route 537), Wrightstown, NJ 08562 with burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery in New Egypt. Calling hours will be on Thursday, January 12 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM and again on Friday morning from 8:00 to 9:00 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533 (www.tilghmanfh.com). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Charlie’s memory be made to the New Egypt First Aid and Emergency Squad, P. O. Box 368, New Egypt, NJ 08533.
