John Blanda, age 80, a lifelong area resident, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at home. He was born in Jackson to the late William and Mary Blanda on November 3, 1938. At the age of 17, John enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country. After returning home, he went to work as a truck driver for Lehigh Valley Dairy and later worked as ground maintenance for the Jackson Township Board of Education. John was a former member of the Woodruff Rod and Gun Club, enjoyed taking trips to Atlantic City and lived for his Friday night weekly games of cards. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend who will be sorely missed.
John is predeceased by his parents William and Mary Blanda (nee Bettino); a brother Joe Blanda; and a sister Mary Ann Enriquez. He leaves behind his adored wife of 34 years, Barbara Blanda (nee Conk) of New Egypt; his four children, John and Amanda Blanda of Wrightstown, JoAnn Isom and husband Perez of Willingboro, Jill Bauerle and husband Don of Hamilton and Jackie Jackson and husband Ken of Upper Deerfield; his two step-daughters, Diane Snyder and husband Michael of Chesterfield VA and Cheryl Gruca and husband Andrew of Roopville GA; four siblings, Rose Marshall and husband Jack of New Egypt, Tony Blanda and wife Doris of New Egypt, Jean Sayles of Trenton and Bill Blanda and wife Gale of Wrightstown; grandchildren, LaNee Isom, DeAnno Isom, Melissa Bauerle, Matthew Bauerle, Hunter Jackson, Nikki Jackson, Elizabeth Weingarten, Michael Snyder Jr., Zachary Snyder, Jordan Snyder, Kyle Gruca and Casey Wayne; seven great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, April 29, 2019 from 10AM to 12PM at the New Egypt United Methodist Church - Atkinson Hall, which is located behind the church (38 N. Main Street, New Egypt NJ 08533) on 9 Fort Avenue. A funeral service will begin at 12PM with burial to follow at the Jacobstown Baptist Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home, New Egypt NJ.
