Obituary of James E. Brown

James Edward Brown, age 90, a lifelong New Egypt resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 20, 2020 at home. He was born in New Egypt to the late Vincent and Lela Brown on March 16, 1929. James enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He later went to work as a mechanic for the Dept. of Defense for many years until his retirement in 1984. James married Florence Parker in 1950 and the couple had 5 children. In his free time James enjoyed fishing, hunting and bird watching. He had a love of the beach, especially Island Beach State Park and was a member of the American Legion Post 455 in New Egypt. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed. James is predeceased by his parents; by his wife Florence Brown; his 2 sisters, Vivian Hartshorn and Ruth Borden; and son-in-law Mark Rodgers. He leaves behind his 5 children, Denise Brown of Jackson, Paula Brown of Hamilton, Lisa Clark and husband David of New Egypt, James Brown II and wife Shonda of New Lisbon and Michael Brown of Mt. Holly; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 10AM to 12PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, located at 52 Main Street, New Egypt NJ 08533. A funeral service will begin at 12PM with interment to follow at Jacobstown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in James’ memory to the Deborah Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 820 Browns Mills, NJ 08015.
