Obituary of Mary Ellen Steger

Mary Ellen Steger, age 72, of Toano, Virginia and formerly of Toms River, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond. She was born on the Lakehurst Naval Air Station in Lakehurst, New Jersey to Harold and Anna Hinton on February 17, 1948. Mary grew up in Toms River and graduated from Central Regional High School in 1966. She worked as a Realtor for many years and loved every minute of it. Mary enjoyed meeting new people and was somewhat of a social butterfly. She was a talented interior decorator, enjoyed going on shopping trips and traveling with her family. Mary was known for being an excellent cook, which was something she always took pride in. Above all, Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Mary is predeceased by her father, Harold F. Hinton. She leaves behind her adored husband of 35 years, Paul E. Steger, of Toano, Virginia; her son, Edward Strassle and wife Sabina of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania; her daughter Ellen Fergus and husband Michael of Chester, New Jersey; her mother, Anna Hinton (nee Pasalano) of Williamsburg, Virginia; and by her four grandchildren, Trista Strassle, Brooke Strassle, Olivia Fergus and Joseph Fergus.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Friday, February 19, 2021 from 11:30AM to 1:30PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, located at 52 Main Street, New Egypt, New Jersey 08533. A funeral service will begin at 1:30PM with interment to follow at the Brig. General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, New Jersey. Social distancing and facial coverings are required.
