Sarah Jo Mains, age 76, of New Egypt, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 5, 2021 at Monmouth Medical Center – Southern Campus in Lakewood, NJ. She was born in Trenton, NJ to the late Constance and Alvah George Probasco on November 23, 1944. After high school, Sarah Jo married the love of her life, Martin Mains on November 2, 1963 and they had two sons.
Sarah Jo worked in the banking industry and held several different positions. She was also one to keep busy and was involved in many different organizations. Sarah Jo was a member of the Plumsted Presbyterian Church in New Egypt, a member of the New Egypt Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, a volunteer at the Deborah Heart and Lung Foundation, a charter and founding member of the New Egypt Historical Society, a member of the DAR - Daughters of the American Revolution and sat on the Bicentennial Committee. In her free time, Sarah Jo enjoyed baking and was well known for her cheesecakes. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Sarah Jo is predeceased by her parents. She leaves behind her adored husband Martin “Marty” Mains of New Egypt; her two sons, Michael Mains of New Egypt and Mark Mains and his wife Allison of Millstone; her grandchildren, Michelle Mains, Matthew Mains, Mitchell Mains, Briar Mains and Levi Mains; her sister Susan Estel and husband Gary of New Egypt; along with many extended family members and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 5PM to 7PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, located at 52 Main Street, New Egypt NJ 08533. A funeral service will begin at 7PM. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sarah Jo’s memory to the New Egypt Historical Society at 125 Evergreen Road, New Egypt NJ 08533. Due to COVID-19 social distancing and facial coverings are required.
