Obituary of Helen R. Guide

Helen R. Guide December 4, 1932 – October 27, 2021 Helen Regina Guide, nee Kenney, died October 27 at her home in Berkeley Township, NJ. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Helen and her husband Donald B. Guide had just celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Along with her husband Donald, she is survived by her daughter Lisa, sons Christopher and Kenneth, sisters Kathleen Fottler and Jane Curto, brother Michael Baranowski and six grandchildren – as well as son-in-law John Passacantando and daughters-in-law Christine Guide and Debby Kowal. She was predeceased by her son James, sisters Beverly Kenney and Charlene Stoneham, and brothers Thomas Kenney and Steven Baranowski. Born in Jersey City, NJ to Charles and Regina (nee Abrams) Kenney, Helen was one of eight children – five sisters and three brothers. She grew up in Harrison, NJ and attended Harrison High School. She was a graduate of the Newark School of Radiology at St. James Hospital, and worked as an x-ray technician prior to her marriage. Helen and her husband-to-be met on the Manasquan, NJ beach during the summer of 1958, and they were married on September 26, 1959 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harrison NJ. Their first child Lisa was born in August 1960 and they soon after moved to Glen Rock, NJ where they lived for more than 50 years. Helen and Don had four children, Lisa, James (b. 1962 – d. 2008), Christopher (b. 1963), and Kenneth (b. 1973) A dedicated mother and grandmother, she was blessed with six grandchildren – Michele, David, Susan, Sophia, Isabele and Mollie. She was a consummate sports fan, enjoying tennis, ice skating, baseball (NY Mets), and football (NY Giants). She was known for her ability to make friends wherever she went, her infectious laugh, great sense of humor and dedication to her family and friends. Viewing will be held Thursday November 4 from 6 – 8 pm, and a memorial service will be held on Friday, November 5 at 12 noon at Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main St. New Egypt, NJ. Internment will immediately follow the service at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ. The family is requesting that all guests be COVID vaccinated and wear masks while attending the service and repast.
