Johannes “John” Cornelius Byster, age 90, of Plumsted Township passed away Monday, November 1 at Bartley Healthcare in Jackson. Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, he lived in Plumsted Township since 2005 and formerly a longtime resident of Manalapan. John served in the US Army from 1956-1958 and he retired from Foodtown in Manalapan where he worked as a butcher. He loved to cook, travel and take long walks with his pal “Chico”. He was an EMT on the Englishtown-Manalapan First Aid Squad also serving as their sergeant and vice-president. John was also a talented artist. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be missed. John is predeceased by his parents, Francicus and Maria Byster and a son, John Francis Byster. He is survived by his beloved wife, Madeline (Staib) Byster; a daughter-in-law, Linda Byster of Colorado; a son, William Byster and wife Dawn of Burlington; two daughters, Susan Scialabba and fiancé Nicholas Mitaritonna of Toms River and Anne Eavener and husband Dennis of Carolina Beach, NC; his grandchildren, Stephanie Leschinski and husband Mark, Brittney Byster, Nicole Byster, Eric Toth and wife Julie, Lucas Byster, Nicholas Scialabba and fiancée Kaitlyn Miley, Jonathan Scialabba, Daniel Scialabba and five great grandchildren, Evan, John F., Oliver, John S.and Jaxon. An intimate gathering of close friends and relatives to celebrate John’s life will be held at the home of Madeline Byster on November 21 between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Masks or proof of vaccination is required. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org/get-involved-now/donate). Arrangements are under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home in New Egypt, NJ.
