Obituary of Thomas S. Hemphill

Thomas S. Hemphill, age 85, passed away Saturday, December 11 at home. Born in Wyandotte, Michigan to the late Clyde and Lila Hemphill, he resided in New Egypt since 1985 and formerly lived in Browns Mills. Tom proudly served in the US Air Force from 1954 to 1974 retiring as a Technical Sergeant. After his military he worked for Ground Services at McGuire AFB. Tom was a member of the VFW Post in Cookstown. He loved to hunt and fish and his trips to the AC Casinos. Tom was a regular at the Plumsted Grill where he had many friends, he loved to tell jokes and was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be missed by all. Tom was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis Hemphill; a granddaughter, Sarah Weakly and by a brother, Marley Hemphill. He is survived by two sons, James Hemphill and wife Charlotte of Townville, SC and Tom Quasey and wife Shelly of Pittsburgh, PA three daughters, Kimberly Hemphill of Browns Mills, Tammy Harper of New Egypt and Teresa Hemphill-Hopkins and husband Tom of Las Vegas, NV; a former daughter-in-law, Cindy Hemphill of Old Bridge; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A viewing for Tom will be held on Thursday, December 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533. Burial with Military Honors will take place on Friday, December 17 at 9:30 AM at the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tom’s name can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org).
