James (Jim) M. Green, Sr., age 90, of Jersey City, South Plainfield, Little Egg Harbor, Jackson, NJ and Andersonville TN went to meet the Lord on February 19, 2022. Born December 8, 1931 in Jersey City, New Jersey, he is the son of the late Thomas Green and Winifred Shepard. James is also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Veronica C. (Johnson) Green, 3 brothers, Thomas Green, Martin Green, David Green, 2 sisters, Mary Simmons and Winifred Kearns and 3 grandchildren, Matthew Lowich, Jesse Hawk and Nicholas Green.
He is survived by 5 daughters, Veronica Ann Green of Franklin, GA, Patricia W. Barnosky of Jackson, NJ, Diane M. Redden and her husband John of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Deborah Belford and her husband Thomas of Andersonville TN, Caroline T. Carrelli of Effort PA., 3 sons, James M. Green, Jr. of Dunellen, NJ, Thomas L. Green of Little Egg Harbor, NJ and Steven Green of Sweetwater, TN. 25 grandchildren, Sarah Lowich-Alaoui, Gregory Lowich, Timothy Lowich, Charles Hartobey, Daniel Hartobey, Tiffany Redden, John Redden III, Joshua Redden, Travis Redden, Keith Belford, Christopher Belford, Shawn Belford, Amanda Boehner, Caroline Boehner, Adriana Echeverry, Edward Echeverry, Alexander Green, James Green III, Kelly Manis, Kyle Green, Samantha Green, Stephanie Green, Corey Green, Amber Green and Austin Green; 39 great grandchildren, Nour, Youssef, Sofia, Kaitlyn, Andrew, Robert, Raymond, Mason, James, Maya, Kaii, Ryley, Sophia, Dakota, Lucas, Hunter, Jeremy, Jasmine, Julianne, Hayden, Taylor, Sophia, Richard, Blaze, Zoey, Zavion, Travis, Jesse, Mia, John John, Dylan, Cody, Gage, Aria, Thomas, Jaylin, Jordan and Carly.
James worked for the Jersey City Bakers Association as a driver for 30 years, Pinkerton as a guard, Anderson Florist as a driver, Harris Steel in the parts manufacturing and delivery and lastly his favorite, a school bus driver for South Plainfield Public Schools.
James was a Korean War Veteran and served in the HQ Battery 9th Infantry division artillery from 1948 to 1951. Member of the American Legion post 243 for 49 continuous years. He served as Rehab Chairman among other positions at the South Plainfield Post. He was known as a man with a big heart.
Throughout the years he enjoyed horseshoes, card games, bingo, wrestling, Family Feud, fishing, crabbing, boating, dancing and roughhousing with his children such as “pile on Daddy” and other playfulness. He was known for his unique insight and sense of humor. You are often on our mind and always in our heart.
Funeral services for James will be held on Wednesday, March 2 at 12:00 Noon at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533 with burial to follow in the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, March 1 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and again on Wednesday morning from 11:00 AM until noon at the funeral home.
