John Michael “Jack” Cascio, Sr., age 71, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2023 at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Hazleton, Pennsylvania after complications following a stroke. He was born at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ on April 19, 1952 to the late James and Louise (Cothern) Cascio. He was raised in Palisades Park, New Jersey, attended Pequannock Valley Middle School, and withdrew from Pequannock Township High School on December 12, 1969 to enlist in The United States Navy. In the Navy he became a Hospitalman, stationed at the Naval Hospital in St. Albans, New York, and cared for countless soldiers injured in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge in 1972, he accomplished the greatest feat of his life—he found a way to get Jane Jacoby to fall in love with him and become his wife. On June 21, 1973, after a very long drive, they were married in Dillon, South Carolina. He cherished her for the next fifty years.
Jack loved many things: music, fishing, New York sports teams, coaching his sons’ baseball teams, traveling to their martial arts tournaments, any reason to get the grill or smoker going, going back to Palisades Park to visit family. He loved to laugh. He relished a warm day, either to sit on the porch and recount memories or to begin a task to get his hands and mind working. He worked for years as an industrial mechanic and dedicated himself so much that the engineers would come to him for insight. He often talked about how he would figure out the solutions to problems in his dreams. Even in his dreams he was working. Even in his sleep his drive was to take care of things.
Jack took care of his family because there was nothing more important to him. Family was everything. He loved being a son and a brother as well as a husband and a father.
Jack was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Jimmy. He is survived by his loving wife, Jane, and his children John, Jr., Chris, and Joe, his daughter-in-law Roberta, his brothers Garry and Kenny, and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed dearly and loved forever.
