Denise was like a second mother to me. Always warm and inviting through her presence and her strait sense of humor. She had an open door policy to her home no matter how many of us knuckle-heads would pop in and out, eat all her food or otherwise terrorize what surely would have been a more peaceful home had she not let us run amuck.
You know you’re welcome when you walk in and open the fridge with no hesitation after leaving your bike strewn about the driveway as an unintended obstacle for the adults with cars. She was happy to let us take over the living room, basement, garage or yard whenever the mood would strike us while she quietly oversaw our shenanigans.
She even extended open invites to any and all holidays. Christmas in particular at the McCarthy residence always brought with it the most beautiful and meticulously decorated Christmas tree and well wrapped gifts. Those traditions of generosity and hospitality live on through her children today.
She was a dutiful, family first mother to many who always put her own needs second. She filled her home with people, pets and love that I won’t soon forget. She will be greatly missed. She was and is greatly loved.
