Joseph R. “Joe” Bielavitz, age 87, resident of Columbus, formerly of Keansburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes located in Camden. He was born on December 28, 1937, in Scranton, PA, to the late Joseph and Caroline Bielavitz. He joined the U.S. Navy when he was 18 years old and proudly served from 1955-1958. As a car enthusiast, Joe held several interesting jobs in the auto industry before retiring as a delivery driver after working for Wonderbread for 25 years. He enjoyed going to classic car shows, watching NASCAR, and once even raced in the demolition derby. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend that will be deeply missed.
Joe is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Caroline (nee Gerulsky) Bielavitz; and his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan Betterly and husband Donald, Elaine Wagner and husband Colonel John F. Wagner. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 51 years, SarahAnn Bielavitz; his three children and his five grandchildren, Marie Campisi, her daughter, Sara, and Sara's father Vincent Campisi; Sarann Bielavitz, her husband Jeremy Steinhauer, and their children Wesley and Lucia; and PJ Bielavitz, his wife Megan McHenry, and their children Oscar and Emmett; and his brother, Thomas Bielavitz and wife Barbara.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 10 AM to 12 PM at Tilghman Funeral Home located at 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533. A funeral service will begin at 11:30 at the funeral home with interment to follow at BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery located at 350 Province Line Road Wrightstown, NJ 08562.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe’s name can be made to Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church Saint Isidore the Farmer Parish, 76 Evergreen Road, New Egypt, NJ 08533.
