Dorothy S. Mount, age 99, of New Egypt died Sunday, November 9 at Meadow Lakes in Hightstown. Born in New Egypt, Dorothy was a resident there before moving to Meadow Lakes in 2002. Born February 18, 1909 to Prof. Ernest A. & Isabella Stevens, she lived in the same house she was born in until moving to Hightstown. Dorothy was a graduate of Trenton State Teachers College and taught school for 42 years, 1 year in Hainesport, 3 years in Hamilton Twp. and 38 years in New Egypt. She also was the Principal and Learning Disability Consultant for the New Egypt Elementary School. She was very interested in local history and was the author of the book ?A Story of New Egypt and Plumsted Township in 1979 and was considered the ?unofficial? town historian. Dorothy was a member of the New Egypt United Methodist Church since 1926. She was a member of both the Ocean County and New Egypt Historical Societies. Dorothy was a member of the Sphinx Chapter #32 of the O.E.S., the American Legion Aux. Post 455 in New Egypt, the New Egypt Senior Citizens and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was also a charter member of both the Plumsted Township Planning Board and the Rainbow Girls. Daughter of the late Ernest and Isabella Stevens, wife of the late Hilton Mount and sister of the late Ralph Stevens, former mayor of Plumsted Township, Dorothy is survived by three cousins, W. Russell Stevens of San Diego, CA, Aubrey Stevens Gerry of Franklinville, NC and Ethel Kelly of Browns Mills, a good friend, Katherine Gunter of New Egypt and by many other friends. As per Dorothy?s wishes there will be no services. Memorial contributions in Dorothy?s memory may be made to the New Egypt United Methodist Church, 38 N. Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533.
