John A. Atkinson, age 81, of Delran died Wednesday, December 24 at Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro. Born in Riverside, he was also a resident of Greenbank, Cookstown and Philadelphia. John was a retired Security Guard, working for Garden State Race Track and PNC Bank, both in Cherry Hill. He also was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Merchant Marines on a hospital ship and was a member of VFW Post 15031. Husband of the late Marie (Dilks) Atkinson, John is survived by six sons and daughters-in-law, John & Sherry Atkinson of Santee, CA, David & Donna Atkinson of Nags Head, NC, Joseph & Terri Atkinson of Hillsborough, OH, Ernie & Sharon Atkinson of Cookstown, Robert & Tracy Atkinson of Xenia, OH and Jeffrey Atkinson and his wife of San Diego, CA; two daughters, Marie Pacillio-Schieber and husband Mark of San Diego, CA and Joan Atkinson of Delran; fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 30 at 11:30 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt, with Rev. Norman Eckley, officiating. Burial will follow in the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. Calling hours will be on Monday evening, December 29 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
