Obituary of Geraldine R. Mercer

Geraldine R. Mercer, ?Gerri? and ?Meme?, age 85, of Jacobstown passed from this life to her heavenly home Tuesday, March 31 at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mt. Holly, surrounded by her family. Born in Hutchinson, KS, she was a long time area resident. Gerri had retired from the Federal Civil Service, Personnel Department at Ft. Dix in 1984 and then worked as the Housing Inspector?s secretary for North Hanover Township until 1995. She was a Veteran of the US Army serving during WWII. Gerri was a member of the Shadyrest Bible Church in Chesterfield, member and past-president of North Hanover Twp. Senior Citizens, a member of the American Legion Post 455 in New Egypt and past member of the Jacobstown Vol. Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. Gerri is survived by her children and their spouses; Sheila and Gordon Graybeal of Vinton, VA, Nancy and Richard Peoples of Jacobstown with whom she resided and James and Marta Mercer of Richmond, VA; her grandchildren, Robert and Emily Mercer of Richmond, VA, Michael Mercer of Baltimore, MD, Sean Peoples of Washington, DC and Cara Peoples of Belleville, NJ who were blessed to have ?Meme? active in their daily lives, and she had one great granddaughter, Libby Mercer. Gerri is also survived by her constant companion Benji. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 5 at 8:00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com). Calling hours will be on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment services will be held on Monday, April 6 at 10:30 AM at the Chapel of the BGWCD in Arneytown. Gerri loved her church family, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Shadyrest Bible Church, 187 Crosswicks Road, Chesterfield, NJ 08515.
