Obituary of Lester Gilliland

Lester Gilliland, age 78, of Cream Ridge died Wednesday, July 8 at RWJ University Hospital in Hamilton. Born in Jamesburg, he lived most of his life in North Brunswick before moving to Cream Ridge in 2003. Lester was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War, serving in Germany. He was employed by Quaker Oats in New Brunswick and later for Proctor & Gamble in South Brunswick. Lester was a member of the Reformed Church of North Brunswick, the American Legion Post 459 in North Brunswick, the Masonic Lodge No. 294 F.&A.M. in Milltown, the Scottish Rite in Burlington and many years with the Navy League of the U.S. Lester was predeceased by his parents, William & Mary Gilliland and by his sister, Elizabeth Dudkin. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marion (Balint) Gilliland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas L. & Kathie Gilliland of Monmouth Junction and Christopher A. and Carol Jean Gilliland of Jackson; four grandchildren, David and Sandra Gilliland and Caelynn and Grant Grossman; three brothers, William, John and Robert Gilliland; three sisters, Willetta Paprocki, Dorothy Phares and Ethel Shea and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 10 at 1:00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with burial to follow in the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. Calling hours will be on Thursday evening, July 9 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and again on Friday morning from 12 Noon to 1 PM.
