Walter G. Spaeth, age 100, of Cream Ridge died Tuesday, July 7 at Granville House Assisted Living in Burlington. Born May 21, 1909 in Camden, he moved to Tabernacle in 1943, where he lived until moving to Cream Ridge in 1988. The last 3 years he resided at Granville House. Walter was a retired Roofing and Heating Contractor. He became an Eagle Scout in 1924 and was active in the Boy Scouts of America in many capacities. He was a leader of the BSA Troop in Tabernacle and traveled to California for the National BSA Jamboree in 1953 and also attended the Jamboree in Valley Forge in 1957. He was a member of the Marlton, Medford & Vincentown Rotary Club for many years and served as organizer of the Annual Halloween Parade. He was active with the PTA, many church functions and supported the Mt. Holly Chapter of Deborah Heart and Lung Center. Walter summered in Seaside Park, NJ where he met his wife. He was an avid sailor and was past Commodore of the Forked River Tuna Club, member of the Tall Oaks Yacht Club and the Barnegat Bay Sail Club. He and his wife enjoyed cruising and ballroom dancing. They bare boat chartered the Caribbean, South America and Greece. They also enjoyed skiing and he skied until he was 94. May 21, 2009 Walter celebrated his 100th birthday at the Granville House, which was attended by many family members and friends. He was presented with a citation from the Boy Scouts for being an Eagle Scout turning 100 years old. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Marion Flitcroft Spaeth. Surviving are a son, Donald Spaeth of Hampton, TN; a daughter, Joan Harper of Cream Ridge, NJ and a granddaughter, Lisa Minshull of Cream Ridge. A memorial service for Walter will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Hornerstown Baptist Church, 13 Arneytown-Hornerstown Road in Cream Ridge, NJ, with Rev. Thomas Downey, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Walter?s memory may be made to the Hornerstown Baptist Church, 13 Arneytown-Hornerstown Road, Cream Ridge, NJ 08514 or to the Hospice of Moorestown VNA, 300 Harper Drive, Moorestown, NJ 08057.
