Obituary of Warren Orlando Harris

Warren O. Harris, Sr., age 87, resident of the Masonic Home in Burlington, NJ, died on Fathers Day, Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mt. Holly of natural causes. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served his country in the South Pacific during WWII. He was Postmaster in Wrightstown for 25 years. He also served the community of Wrightstown as a member of the Municipal Utilities Assoc. and as a member of the Planning/Zoning Board. He was a former member of the New Hanover Twp. Board of Education, serving eleven years as President. He was a charter member of the Vincentown Merchants Baseball Association, Life member of the Vincentown NJ Jr. OUAM and member of the VFW Post 6590. He was a member of the Wrightstown Volunteer Fire Company, serving as their Chief for 5 years and as Treasurer for 35 years. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Pemberton and a member of the Wrightstown Area Rotary Club. He was born in Vincentown, NJ on November 9, 1922 on the family farm. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Alexander and Nettie Adelaide (nee Moore) Harris and by his brothers, Francis, Samuel Arthur and Richard Donald. Warren is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marybelle (nee Davis) Harris; step-son Allen Miller and wife Linda (nee Githens) Miller of Sabinsville, PA; daughter JoAnn and husband Keith Smith of Bal Harbour, FL; son Warren O. Harris, Jr. of Lilburn, GA and son Richard D. Harris and wife Missie (nee Griffith) of Loganville, GA. He was blessed with eight grandchildren, Michael Miller, Melissa Salvadge, Allison Smith, Drew Smith, Richard Harris II, Heather Smith, Cory Harris and Clay Harris. He is survived by six great-grandchildren, Jillian and Spice Harris, Emma and Kate Smith, Mason Salvadge and Kaig Harris. Funeral services for Warren will be held on Friday, June 25 at 10:30 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with interment to follow in the Upper Springfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday evening, June 24 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions in Warren?s memory be made to the Wrightstown Volunteer Fire Co., c/o the Treasurer, 21 Saylors Pond Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562.
