Obituary of Walter Scott Garrett

Walter Scott Garrett, Jr., age 59, of New Egypt died Thursday, July 10 at RWJ University Hospital in Hamilton. Born in Mt. Holly, he had been a resident of New Egypt since 1982 and formerly of Burlington Twp. Walt was a decorated Air Force Veteran serving as a Staff Sergeant in Viet Nam. He had been a self employed blacksmith for 20 years, working on some of the best race horses in the country and most recently was employed as a driver for L&L Redi Mix in Vincentown. Walt had previously been a licensed trainer for the US Trotting Association and also owned his own race horses including Chipper Ed, Donegal Bay, and Lenape Lil? Feather. He was an active breeder of Champion PBGV dogs and owned nationally ranked dogs and Westminster Kennel Club Show winners. He was very proud of his dogs. Walt loved salt water fishing and the NY Yankees. Son of the late Walter and Mary Garrett, he is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Dorothea (nee Peters) Garrett; a daughter and son-in-law, Tonia and Timothy Chvala of Green Isle, Minnesota; a son and daughter-in-law, Matthew Adam and Patricia Garrett of North Hanover Twp.; three grandchildren, Evelyn Anne and Madelyn Lily Chvala and Sean Patrick Garrett and Walt is survived by his dogs, April, Breezy, Lovey, Patty, Annie, Peanut, Miles and Bitser. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 15 at 10:00 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), burial with military honors will follow at the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. Calling hours will be on Monday evening, July 14 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
