Obituary of Leona B. Liedtka

Leona (nee Batcho) Liedtka, age 87, of New Egypt died Friday, October 1 of natural causes. Born in Hooversville, PA, she was a resident of New Egypt for the past 60 years. Leona was very proud to serve as a Petty Officer in the US Navy during World War II where she was stationed in Washington DC and worked at the Pentagon and was the oldest veteran in New Egypt. She was the owner and president of Chipar Land Clearing in New Egypt and worked the family farm for many years. Leona attended Hunter College, she was a parishioner at the Church of the Assumption in New Egypt, was a member of the US Trotter Association and enjoyed racing stock cars in the Powder Puff Derby at New Egypt Speedway. Leona was predeceased by her husband, Walter A. Liedtka and a son, Bruce Liedtka. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Novak and husband Peter of San Diego, CA and Dawn A. Liedtka of New Egypt and three grandchildren, Erica, Jennifer and Erin. Mass of Christian Burial for Leona will be held on Tuesday, October 5 at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Assumption Chapel, 76 Evergreen Road in New Egypt with burial to follow in Emleys Hill Cemetery in Cream Ridge. Calling hours will be on Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com).
