George Albert South, age 81, of Meherrian, Virginia, formerly of Cookstown, NJ died Friday, November 5 at Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, VA. Born in Mt. Holly he was a resident of Cookstown before moving to Virginia in 1999. George had owned a paving contracting business in Cookstown. He was a member of the Cookstown Vol. Fire Co. for over 50 years, a charter member of the New Egypt Elks Lodge and a member of the Cookstown United Methodist Church. George is survived by his wife, Mildred I. South of Meherrian, VA; a daughter, Patricia A. Bartholomew of North Hanover Twp., NJ; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services for George will be held on Friday, November 12 at 10:00 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with burial to follow in the Jacobstown Baptist Cemetery in Jacobstown. Calling hours will be on Thursday evening, November 11 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in George?s memory may be made to either the Cookstown Vol. Fire Co. or the Cookstown United Methodist Church.
