Robert A. Palmer, age 85, of Cream Ridge died Wednesday, March 2 at Samaritan Hospice in Mount Holly. Born in Spring Lake, NJ, he was a resident of Spring Lake Heights before moving to Cream Ridge in 1987.
Bob was a veteran of the US Army during World War II, serving as forward reconnaissance for General Patton?s armored division and fought during the Battle of the Bulge and he received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in combat. He was a retired mailman for the Spring Lake Post Office. Bob was a parishioner of the Church of the Assumption in New Egypt, a member of the D.A.V. and the V.F.W. and was an avid Mets fan whether they won or lost. But most of all, Bob always put his family first.
He was predeceased by his wife, Clare Palmer. Bob is survived by a son, Robert Palmer, Jr. and wife Donna of Spring Lake Heights; two daughters, Nancy Gauss and husband Stanley of Wrightstown and Linda Rogers of Florida; six grandsons; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Bob will be held on Saturday, March 5 at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Assumption Chapel, 76 Evergreen Road in New Egypt with Father Joseph Farrell officiating. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:45 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com).
