Obituary of Walter H. Horler

Walter H. Horler, Jr., age 67, of North Hanover Twp. died Monday, April 18 at Samaritan Hospice in Mt. Holly. Born in Middletown, NY, he was a North Hanover Twp. resident since 1982. Walt served in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1983 as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of service. After his Air Force service, Walt worked as a Sergeant for the Burlington County Sheriffs Department for 20 years. He was a member of the State Post of the American Legion and the Mt. Holly Moose Lodge. Walt was an Exempt Member of the Cookstown Vol. Fire Co. with 25 years of service and was previously a member of the Johnson, NY Fire Co. He was a volunteer coach with the Northern Burlington Greyhounds Youth Football for 25 years, a coach for youth baseball in Pemberton and a coach for youth basketball and Little League Baseball in Delaware. Most recently Walt was volunteering to assist in training police dogs with Perry Parks. Walt was predeceased by his parents, Vivian and Walter Horler, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Elaine (nee Weller) Horler; a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur James and Heather Horler of Palm Coast, FL; a daughter and son-in-law, Jo-Anne and Kenneth Cartier of Browns Mills; a half brother, Mark Horler of Middletown, NY; three step-brothers, Albert, Daniel and John Watch; an aunt and uncle, Alice and Robert Weeden of Westtown, NY; a cousin, Claire Toffel and husband Stanley also of Westtown and Walt was also survived by his very much beloved black lab Benny who was a certified drug dog. Funeral services for Walt will be held on Tuesday, April 26 at 11:30 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with Samaritan Hospice Chaplin Anne Butts officiating. Burial with Air Force honors will follow at the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. Calling hours will be on Monday evening, April 25 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home with Fire Company services at 7:30.
