Obituary of Emilio Tirado

Emilio Tirado, age 87, of New Egypt died Sunday, April 24 at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland. Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, he has been a resident of New Egypt since 1955 and before that he lived in Texas, Panama and Germany during his military career.
Emilio retired from the U.S. Army in 1965 after 21 years of service and he retired again in 1985 after 20 years civil service as the Retirement Services Officer at Fort Dix. Emilio was a Life Member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post 455 in New Egypt and a member of the VFW and the New Egypt Elks Lodge. He belonged to the Retired Officers Association (MOAA) and had served as their president and he also served on many councils at Fort Dix. Emilio was also a parishioner at the Church of the Assumption in New Egypt.
Emilio was predeceased by a son, Steven E. Tirado. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Olga (nee Yurkiw) Tirado; a daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Wayne Van Hise of Cream Ridge; five grandchildren, Leslie Van Hise, Dana Schleider and husband Justin, Lauren Van Hise, Jeffrey Van Hise and Steven E. Tirado, Jr.; a step-granddaughter, Melissa Peterson and husband Robert; a great grand son, Nikolas W. Schleider; a step-great grandson, Marcus Peterson and three nephews in Puerto Rico.
Funeral services for Emilio will be held on Thursday, April 28 at 12:30 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with burial and military honors to follow at the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. Calling hours will be on Wednesday evening, April 27 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and again on Thursday morning from 11:30 to 12:30 at the funeral home.
