Obituary of Harry Kopiak

Harry Kopiak, age 90, of Casa Grande, AZ died on July 21, 2011, at Southern Arizona VA Medical Center in Tucson. Mr. Kopiak was born on April 16, 1921, in Edwardsville, PA and lived in Linden, Old Bridge and Howell, NJ before moving to Arizona in 1994. Harry served in the Marine Corps and was a survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack at the beginning of World War II. He served for 25 years on the Newark, NJ police force including during the 1967 race riots. He loved listening to music, especially mariachi and cumbia. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Arizona. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Rita; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and John Melendy of Bayville, NJ; two grandchildren, Michael Melendy and wife Kristina of Jackson, NJ and Carrie Melendy of Bayville, NJ and two great-grandchildren, Michael-John and Giani Melendy. Interment services will be held on Friday, August 5 at 9:30 AM at the Chapel of the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road in Wrightstown under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com).
