Steffie Newell of New Egypt passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at Brandywine Assisted Living in Howell. She was 82. Born in Trenton, she was a resident of Imlaystown before moving to New Egypt in 1960. She was a homemaker. Steffie was a member of Church of the Assumption in New Egypt, where she was a member and past president of the Rosary Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Newell; her mother and father, Joseph and Katherine (Pokrywka) Szajna; two brothers, Edward Szajna and Stanley Shyner; three sisters, Stella Kozako, Sophie Benedetto and Jean Inglese. Steffie is survived by two daughters and two son-in-laws, Linda and Larry Myroncuk of Jacobstown; Laurie Coutermarsh and Mark Mango of New Egypt; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Denise Newell of New Egypt; five grandchildren, Deana and Ron Tappen, Kyle Newell, Capt. Dr. Andrew Coutermarsh and Carter Morales; two great-grandchildren, Lilly and Katherine Tappen; and a special friend, Earl Sexton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Church of the Assumption Chapel, 76 Evergreen Road, New Egypt. Burial will follow in the Church of Assumption Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
