John T. Shiner, age 67, of New Egypt died Wednesday, November 9 at his residence. Born in West Palm Beach, FL, he had been a resident of New Egypt for 45 years. John served in the US Air Force during Vietnam from 1963 to 1967 and then in the New Jersey Air National Guard, retiring as a Master Sergeant and also worked as an insurance agent for Prudential Insurance Company for 15 years. He served on the Plumsted Township Committee from 1975 to 1977 and also served as Mayor. John was a Life Member of the American Legion Post 455 in New Egypt and was a member of the New Egypt Elks Lodge #2457. John was predeceased by a sister, Suzie Cash and his parents, John and Flora Shiner. He is survived by a son, Aaron Shiner and wife Jennifer of Bordentown, a daughter, Rene Mans and husband Marcus of Crosswicks; two grandchildren, Emily and Erik Shiner and by his longtime companion of 21 years, Gwen Lutzick of New Egypt. Funeral services for John will be held on Monday, November 14 at 12:30 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with burial to follow with military honors at the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. Calling hours will be on Monday from 11:30 to 12:30 at the funeral home. Due to cemetery restrictions, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John?s memory may be made to the Popcorn Park Zoo, P. O. Box 43, Forked River, NJ 08731-0043.
