Martin R. Cerza, Sr., age 88, of Toms River died Monday, November 21 at the Veterans Hospital in East Orange, NJ. Born in San Martino, Italy, he was a resident of Toms River for the past 17 years and formerly of Maplewood.
Martin was an Army veteran of World War II fighting in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe, serving in the 473rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery and received a Certificate of Recognition by the French Secretary of State. He was retired from Dante Cerza, Inc. Interior Design. Martin was a member of the Seaside Heights Italian-American Club and UNICO.
Martin was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Cerza in July. He is survived by two sons, Dr. Martin R. Cerza, Jr. and wife Lisa of Annapolis, MD and David A. Cerza and wife Nancy of Hillsborough, NJ; a daughter, Denise Rainey and husband Charles of Tucson, AZ; a brother, Gerard Cerza; a sister, Luisa Cerza-Guarente and four grandchildren, Daniel, Christina, Alison and Isabella.
Funeral services for Martin will be held on Friday, November 25 at 12:30 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with burial to follow in the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. Calling hours will be on Friday morning from 10:30 to 12:30 at the funeral home.
