Obituary of Mafalda Kathern Stanzione

Please share a memory of Mafalda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Sunday, December 11, 2011, God called Mafalda Stanzione (Red, Aunt Fa, Mom) home after a bravely fought three year battle with vascular dementia and Alzheimers Disease. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jerry, son Gerald, granddaughter Gia, three sisters, Emily, Rose, and Lucy and one brother, Anthony. She is survived by 11 Great Grandchildren, 5 Grandchildren, 2 daughters and many other family members and friends. She will be in our hearts always, but we will miss her smile, kind heart, and the many ways she showed her love. Mafalda was born Mafalda Genovesi on April 13th, 1924 in Pennington, New Jersey. She married her husband Jerry on February 28, 1943. During World War II she worked on many defense jobs including the battleship USS Missouri. Her first daughter was born in 1944 and the family subsequently moved to Trenton, New Jersey. In 1986 Red and Jerry moved to California to be with her youngest daughter Julia and grandchildren. After the passing of her husband in 1996, she moved to Bowie, Maryland to stay with her daughter Connie and her husband Dan. Red was always active, vital and loved to help others, particularly children. She especially enjoyed her work as a school traffic control officer in California. After her move to Bowie, she took part in many Bowie Senior Citizens Club community support activities and served as its President and Vice-President. She claimed, with a smile and a twinkle in her eye, that her election was due to her status as the worlds? best bingo and card player. We are thankful we were given the gift of her knowing and loving her. The ache of her absence will be there always, but there also is comfort knowing she is at peace and free from pains of the body and mind brought by these terrible diseases. She loved her family and friends with all her heart. Those memories and that knowledge are treasures we will hold forever. There will be a viewing and service at the Beall Funeral Home, 6512 Crain Highway, Bowie, MD 20715, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on December 15th, 2011. There will also be a viewing at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ, (609) 758-8500, from 11:00 PM to 12:30 PM on Monday, December 19, 2011. Interment will follow with eternal rest next to her husband of over 50 years at the General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in her name to the Alzheimers Association or a charity of your choice.
