Louis R. Lucas WWII Veteran, Father, Grandfather, Union Carbide Retiree Louis R. Lucas, 96, passed away on January 5, 2013, at the Lyons, NJ VA Medical Center. Mr. Lucas, known to his friends and family as “Lee”, was born in 1916 in Roudouallec, Brittany, France. He came to the U.S. through Ellis Island at the age of three when his parents came to Milltown, NJ with the Michelin Tire Company. Lee served his country during WWII with the Army’s 77th Division and fought in the Pacific Theater. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Combat Infantryman Badge for his contribution to the Battle of Leyte Gulf. After the war, Lee worked for the Union Carbide Corporation (Dow Chemical) in Bound Brook, NJ for many years and retired in 1976. He was an avid beachgoer and spent summers with his family at their home in Lavallette, NJ. Mr. Lucas was predeceased by his wife, Helen, and his five siblings. He is survived by his daughter Debby Lucas Kobel and son-in-law James Kobel of Mendham, NJ, as well as his two granddaughters, Alison Kobel of Malvern, PA and Lauren Kobel of Los Angeles, CA. Services were held at the Tilghman Funeral Home in New Egypt, NJ. Mr. Lucas is buried at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
