John D. Wiggins, age 85, of Cookstown died Saturday, July 6 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in South River, NC, on August 5, 1927, he was a resident of Cookstown since his retirement from the Air Force in 1966.
John served in the US Air Force and retired as a Technical Sergeant after 20 years, serving during World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He received many decorations and awards including the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. After his military service John was a self-employed trucker with John D. Wiggins & Sons Trucking. John loved his sports, especially the Phillies, the Eagles and NASCAR.
John was predeceased by a son John D. Wiggins, Jr. and by his former wife, Marrionette Wiggins. He is survived by his wife, Adele (nee Baker) Wiggins; four children, Francis Hackley III and wife Tina, Michelle Canales, Elizabeth Davison and husband John and David Wiggins and girlfriend Ericka; a brother, Joe Plavec and wife Jane; two sisters, Dorothy Thomas and Nancy Smith and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for John will be held on Friday, July 12 at 3:00 PM at the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Province Line Road in Wrightstown. Please meet at the Tilghman Funeral Home at 52 Main Street in New Egypt by 2:30 PM on Friday to drive to the cemetery in procession.
