Obituary of Alexander Lemesevski

Alexander Lemesevski, ENC (SS) US Navy Ret., of Cream Ridge died Thursday, January 23rd at the age of 86. Born in Camden, NJ, Alex joined the Navy during World War II and served on the USS Butler. He survived a kamikaze airplane attack that killed nine of his fellow crew members. In 1952 he married his wife, Patricia, and continued his military service where some of his fondest memories were of being stationed with his family on Oahu, HI. He retired from the Navy after 22 years of distinguished service and veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Allentown and Saint Gregory the Great; and a member of American Legion Post 54. In later years he enjoyed gardening, prayer and sharing the philosophy of ten, two-letter words: "If it is to be, it is up to me." Alex is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Patricia, and sons Stephen and Paul. He is survived by three sons, Michael, Alexander II and his wife Terri, and Joseph and his wife Jacqueline; also by daughter-in-law Robin; also by three daughters, Mary Sternberg and her husband Mark, Ann Dzurkoc and her husband Tom, and Elizabeth and her partner Rose Gurrola; also seven grandchildren, Nicole, Kristen, Kaitlin, Larisa, Jillian, Andrew and Allison; and by close friend Fay Heaton. He will be fondly remembered by his friends in Cream Ridge and on McGuire AFB. Calling hours for Alex will be held Tuesday, January 28th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 29th at 11:00 AM at the Church of Saint Gregory the Great, 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, with Rev. Ian Trammell officiating. Burial will follow in the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. Due to cemetery restrictions, in lieu of flowers, donations in Alex's honor may be made to Catholic Charities - www.catholiccharitiestrenton.org - providing help to the poor, unemployed and unfortunate.
