Virginia M. Sherman, age 88, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 6 at her daughter’s home in New Egypt where she had been staying since last November. Born in McGrann, PA, she had moved to Whiting, NJ with her late husband in 2008 from Sarasota, Florida. She lived in Pennsylvania most of her life before retiring Florida in 1988. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 PM on Friday, September 12, at Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street. New Egypt, NJ (www.tilghmanfh.com) with an interment service to follow at New Jersey Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road in Wrightstown. Virginia is predeceased by her loving husband of 47 years, Arthur J. Sherman, who passed away in 2011; and a stepson, Jack Sherman. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara E. Smeltzer and son-in-law Greg Spotts of Jersey Shore, PA; Sherri Lotito and son-in-law Vince Lotito of New Egypt, NJ; and a stepdaughter, Sheila Heaps and Dennis Heaps of Loyalsock, PA. She also leaves a brother, James Shoop of Georgia, a brother, Raymond Shoop and a sister, Patty Probst of Florida; eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association in memory of Virginia M.
