Robert J. Eldridge, age 73, of North Hanover Twp. passed away Saturday, March 28 at Capital Health in Trenton. Born in Trenton, he was a life time North Hanover Twp. area resident. Bob graduated from Pemberton High School in 1959 and after graduation served in the Army from 1959 to 1962. He retired after more than 30 years from the North Hanover Twp. Board of Education working as a Black Seal Custodian. Bob was the former mayor of North Hanover Twp. and also served on the township committee for over 10 years. He was an exempt member and past chief and treasurer of the Cookstown Vol. Fire Co. Bob enjoyed playing chess and working in his garden and he was an elder of the Plumsted Presbyterian Church and sang in the church choir. He was a member of the New Egypt Historical Society and was a historian of the local area. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Eldridge in 2013. He is survived by two sons, Ret. Sgt. Justin Eldridge and fiancée Cheri Crawford of Bordentown and Ret. Sgt. Thomas J. Eldridge of Spring Lake, NC; three grandchildren, Summer Eldridge, Jordan Zaro and Madison Zaro; three sisters, Virginia Huffman of Browns Mills, Janice Dale of Phoenix, AZ and Katherine Bennett of Browns Mills and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Bob will be held on Wednesday, April 8 at 11:00 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com) with burial to follow in the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. Calling hours will be on Tuesday evening, April 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
